COURT-ORDERED COMMUNITY SERVICE VOLUNTEER POLICY
Before applying, please review important information regarding completion of Court- Ordered Community Service with the Food Bank.
The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano requires all Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers to fill out the Express Interest application form before completing any court-ordered hours. Incomplete Express Interest application forms will be declined.
Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers are approved on a case-by-case basis. Court-ordered volunteer opportunities are not guaranteed. The Food Bank reserves the right to decline any applicant.

Qualifications:
- The minimum age for Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers is 16.
- Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers are required to search our opportunities calendar and sign themselves up for available shifts.
- Approved Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers agree to:
- sign in ONLY for scheduled shifts.
- attend all shifts they are scheduled for.
- participate for the entire shift.
- agree to arrive on time for volunteer shifts and to neither leave early nor stay beyond your scheduled shift.
- remove themself from shifts they cannot make by using their volunteer portal account.
- make an appointment to request court paperwork signatures or to pick up hard copies of letters of service verification.
- If approved for Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteering , it is your responsibility to complete your hours by the deadline set by the court.
- Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers must comply with the Food Bank’s Volunteer Waiver, Policies, and Safety Rules. Any waiver violation can result in disqualification as a Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteer.
- Submit the online application form. Make sure to include the violation code(s). These are listed as PC and/or VC. We are asking for the code(s) because we support vulnerable populations and some of our distribution sites are restricted.
- Approvals are made within 2-3 business days.
- If you are approved, you will receive an email notification and can begin to sign up for volunteer shifts.
- The Food Bank reserves the right to decline any applicant.
- Please note that due to the Food Bank’s work with vulnerable populations, Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers are restricted from signing up for Senior Food Program distribution volunteer opportunities.
- Please note that due to the Food Bank’s work with vulnerable populations Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers may be approved for service but restricted from serving hours at distribution sites.
- Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers may not drop in to any volunteer opportunities they are not registered for. Walk-ins or volunteers who are not scheduled for the shift are not permitted. You will be dismissed, and this may disqualify you as a Court-Ordered Volunteer.
- Due to the Food Bank’s work with vulnerable populations, Court-Ordered Community Service Volunteers may not sign up for Senior Food Program volunteer shifts. If they sign up for these shifts their hours will not be counted.
- The Food Bank does not award partial credit for volunteer hours. To receive credit for your volunteer hours, you must attend the shift from start to finish.
- Volunteers must sign-in for their shifts on the tablet. If the tablet is not working, you will need to ask staff for the paper attendance sheet to record your hours.
- The Volunteer Services Team are the only Food Bank staff members approved to sign off on community service hours. Our warehouse staff and our staff at distribution sites cannot sign court documents because they do not have access to your volunteer account to verify the hours on behalf of the court.
- If your court-ordered paperwork requires signatures and/or a hard copy of a letter of verification of community service hours, you will need to schedule an appointment with a member of our Volunteer Services Team. Paperwork signatures and letterhead requests can only be provided by approved staff at our Concord or Fairfield warehouses and will only be provided once the community service hours have been completed. Please note: the office hours of our Volunteer Services Team are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays.)
- The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano cannot guarantee that courts will accept our documentation.
