Front Desk & CalFresh Support Volunteer (Concord) 2025
The Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano is recruiting for Front Desk & CalFresh Support Volunteers to help assist at our Concord office. CalFresh is a grocery assistance program (formerly Food Stamps) that offers low-income individuals and families a supplemental monthly benefit. The Food Bank’s CalFresh Team works in our community, conducting outreach with organizations throughout Contra Costa, Solano, and Napa Counties. As a first point of contact, Front Desk & CalFresh Support Volunteers represent the Food Bank to a diverse public and support our mission to lead the fight to end hunger, in partnership with our community and in service to our neighbors in need.
Are you interested in using your customer service and administrative skills and talents to support the work of your local Food Bank? We are looking for volunteers who can make a 3 hour weekly commitment on an ongoing basis to support our CalFresh Team at our front desk. Any individual interested in volunteering as a Front Desk & CalFresh Support Volunteer must either be HIPAA certified or willing to take a 1.5 to 2-hour online certification class, and must be willing to complete a Civil Rights Training Provided by the Food Bank. Volunteer Job Responsibilities include:
- Greet visitors and direct to the appropriate staff or location
- Answer phones and direct calls
- Provide assistance to clients needing food resources
- Stuff envelopes
- Provide data entry
- Making phone calls to assist community members with scheduling an appointment with a CalFresh Coordinator
- Assist with administrative projects as needed
- Interest in the mission of the Food Bank
- Willingness to complete HIPAA Certification and Civil Rights Training provided by the Food Bank
- Basic administrative and customer service skills
- Handwritten note-taking and data-entry skills are a plus
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Previous experience in customer service or a related field is preferred
- Ability to sit for 3 hours at a time and work to support Front Desk staff independently to check-in clients
- Comfort interacting with diverse people. Sensitive to the needs of others.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred, but not required
- Ability to make at least a 1-year commitment
- Adhere to Volunteer Waiver, Policies, Safety Rules, Agreements, and Code of Conduct
